This is sample of one of my local paintings completed for the Oneida Co.Board of Legislators for the County's Bicentennial.It is an antique map of Oneida County,N.Y. surrounded by the 27 villages and hamlets that create it.Nearer the map are the key historical areas and places of the county:The original county fair at Boonville,the longhouses of the Oneida Indians of the Iroquois Federation and early Utica on the Mohawk River.This painting is shown in the Oneida County group of images.
The individual Upstate New York counties and their village images have separate headings in this section: Herkimer,Oneida,Madison and Otsego have the most.The other counties,in Upstate, are in the section headed "Upstate NY" that can be clicked on from my home page.These include the village images from the following counties: Lewis,Jefferson,Oswego,Hamilton,Chenango,Schoharie,Onondaga ,Saratoga and Montgomery Counties.
The painting to create these images were done with oil,watercolor and pastels.They celebrate the charm and beauty of the Northeast USA and its people.

HERKIMER COUNTY
Ilion and the Erie Canal :1852.The original Remington "Yellow Armory" is on the center left with Remington's Osgood Hotel on the corner of Otsego and Main Streets.Elipalet's son Samuel has a broom factory outlet on the canal bank.At the top of the painting is Barringer Road in the area called Steele's Hill then.Steele's were the first settlers on the Palatine German "Burnetsfield Patent" and Steele's Creek was named after them.The first Ilion train station is shown in a small vingette.It was created by placing two boxcars together.It was located in North Ilion.
Parker's Cider Mill at Clapsaddle Farm in Ilion.A mural of the original 1854 mill is on the gable end.The equipment was removed and restored from the original mill when it was taken down in the 1990's.The original mill was located on a mill pond on Hawk's Creek in Smokey Run(South Ilion)/The print shows the regular wagon rides and toy tractors that are used during the apple cider season.

The hamlet of Fairfield,shown when it was a village with over 1500 residents.The Fairfield Academy had one of the top medical schools in America,as well as a military academy and a theological seminary.It was one of the nation's first colleges to enroll women.The painting depicts the village as it would have appeared in the late 1800's
This is the old powerplant on the Mohawk River at the falls in Little Falls.The dam is now broken and the powerplant is occupied by Forbes Whiteside ,who has a deep interest in art and presevation.It is shown at dusk with some kyakers and fisherman on the Mohawk.

A view of Gems Along the Mohawk tourist attraction on the north bank of the Mohawk River/Erie Canal at Herkimer.The painting includes the early watercraft that would have been on this water in the late 1800's.To update the painting the NYS Thruway and railroad were added behind the Gems building.The Thruway (Interstate 90) would not have been there then.
The Village of Herkimer in the late 1800's.The painting was commissioned by the Village Board for the 200th birthday of its incorporation.It shows the NY Central RR going straight through the downtown and the original hydraulic canal that supplied waterpower to the many mills that lined this manmade canal. Small vinettes show the key parts of the Village's history: The early Fort Herkimer,the original four corners,the German village on German Street,Fort Dayton,the stone trolley bridge over the West Canada Creek and the large Standard Furniture Factory.This factory was the World's largest desk factory for many decades.
The Unadilla River at West Winfield showing the mill dam that supplied watepower to the tanneries,cheese box factories and mills that lined the riverbank.The cars are from the 1920's and include a Model-T Ford painted like a Holstein heffer.
Herkimer County's last standing covered bridge at Salisbury Center ,north of Dolgeville.The bridge is a wooden modified Burr truss bridge built in the middle of the 1800's.
This is Mohawk in the 1930's.The original Ahren-Fox firetruck exits Columbia Street to Main.A modern Cord roadster approaches from the east.A Lincoln touring car,a Franklin woody wagon,a futuristic Chrysler Airflow and a tiny American Austin complete the traffic at this intersection.
Cullen ,a small hamlet between Jordanville and Richfield Springs as it appeared in the early 1900's.The Oneonta-Mohawk trolley had a station stop there and added new life to the community.
This painting shows the shocking win of the French Gran Prix by an American made Duesenberg racer.It defeated the French Ballot and English Sunbeam racers that had dominated European and World racing for years.This occurred in 1928.
The Northern Frontier map covers most of the Mohawk Valley as it appeared in the 1750's,prior to the French and Indian War.Much of Herkimer County was involved in fortifications.General Herkimer's father,Jon Jost Herkimer's home,Fort Dayton,Fort Schuyler were all stockaded and strengthened against French attacks.Still ,the German Street area of Fort Dayton was burned to the ground by French forces during this conflict.
The corners at Starkville with the original saw mill,blacksmith shop and carraige shop.
Schuyler Four Corners with the original church,hotel,general store and blacksmith shop.The church was later moved by oxen to Wood's Road.A small inset shows the original stockaded fort at West Schuyler then named New Petersburgh.
The four corners at Jordanville with the original hotel,church and general store.The red auto on the road ahead of the watering trougth is a 1912 Cadillac.
The miracle of the silent electric trolley arrives in Jordanville.It connected the Mohawk Valley at Mohawk with Oneonta in Otsego County with Cullen,stops at the lake and amusement area at Richfield Springs,Fly Creek,Schuyler Lake village,Index,Portlandville etc.It carried both freight and passengers.
Ingham Mills as a very busy mill town powered by waterpower from the East Canada Creek.The stone church is shown at the top of the painting.
The beautiful and mytic Castle Falls between Middlevile and Newport.A natural stone castle was built in 1929 by Mr.Lowery,a landscape achitect from Utica.He built it from natural stone found on the premises for his wife.On her passing,he abandoned it and over the years nature has reclaimed it.It sits on top of an 85 foot waterfall that supplied water power to the earliest settlement at the foot of the falls ,named "Old City".The stream continurus with smaller waterfalls below as it enters the West Canada Creek.
The quaint village of Newport ,on the West Canada Creek.Many of the "downtown" buildings are constructed of local natural limestone blocks and are of the middle victorian stlye in architecture.A large chair factory and cheese factory were located on the Creek below the mill dam and waterfall.A beautiful limestone bridge crosses the creek in the center of the village.Its limestone arches are impressive.
This is the Cameron covered bridge over the West Canada Creek connecting the Kuyahoora Valley with the Town of Deerfield at North Gage.It was over 100 feet long and was removed in 1936 by burning.It was too well made to tare down so they had to burn it.The painting was created by viewing 10 or more photos of it being burned.During the War of 1812 ,thousands of troops marched across it to fight in the Sackett's Harbor and Ogdenburg battles.Only the limestone abutments remain in the water today.
The peacefull Platform Road as it nears the intersection of Castle Road and Route 28 with the West Canada Creek on the left.The painting shows late day shadows filtering through the roadside trees.Ahead is an Amish buggy and walking towards us are two cousinns hand in hand and a young couple walking north.Many times I use people that I know in the paintings.In this image the cousins are Jill Johnson and Pam Pognowski. The couple are Karen Blatt and her boyfriend.
This is the Amish roadside stand of the Reno family.The older daughter and son ran the stand for quite a few years.Next to them is a little stand of local children selling koolaid.The Amish children ran the stand until the family moved to Seneca Falls.It was located at the foot of Castle Road between Middleville and Newport.
Cold Brook was settled because of the abundant water power that the falling brook could supply as it dropped down from the surrounding hills to the West Canada Creek.Over ten watemills operated on this stream during its peak development.Grist,fulling and carding,saw mills ,cheese and chair factories,foundries,blacksmith and wagon shops ,all created dams and waterfalls as the streamed dropped into the Kuyahoora Valley.The painting recreates this era in Cold Brook's history.
The Village of Fairfield with the Fairfield Academy in full operation around the turn of the Century.The stone women's dorm is shown,one of the first in the Nation.Its Medical School ranked 2nd to Columbias in the Country.The painting shows the military school added on the left with its armory.Fairfield ,at this time,had over 1200 residents.My grandfather graduated from their Seminary School in 1894.
Middleville is shown as it would have appeared in the late 1890's.A parade is in progress down Main Street ,across the iron bridge over the West Canada to the park.The Herkimer to Poland RR train is pulling into the depot .The tannery is busy as is the cotton mill across the creek.The large building on the left has now been removed ,replaced by a Village park and parking area.
The Middleville Methodist Church on the Fairfield Road.A postman in his new RFD wagon proceeds on his way ,only to be stopped by a little boy wanting to feed the horse.Rural Free Delivery(RFD) of mail started in 1904,so this would be a depiction of that era.In the church cemetery is a grave marker made like a piano over Mr.Corey's grave and an anvil over his best friend's grave.Mr.Corey made his fortune selling pianos farm to farm and his friend was the local blacksmith.
Poland as it appeared in 1890-1910.A busy mill area fed by abundand waterpower from the Cold Brook created the Village as a desirable site for a settlement.The image is looking from Route 8 south to Route 28 and Main Street.The painting was commissioned for the Village's 200th birthday.A parade is in progress on Mill Street.
Russia Four Corners is a beautiful New England style hamlet with stately colonial houses surrounding a village green.The painting shows the restored church and one room schoolhouse and an active pie sale.It depicts the late 1800's,early 1900's.
Ilion's Maben's Opera House.The social contact for the Villagers with the rest of the world.John L.Sullivan the world champion boxer,Tom Thumb and his orchestra,the Swedish Nightengale,etc.all performed her.The street is filled with activity of that era(1915),both social and commercial.The first race car to come to Ilion to race on the old racehorse track in the north end is being admired.
This is the gunmaker's father's home on the Barringer Road.Elipalet grew up here and made his first gun barrel in his father's forge in the gorge opposite this home.The home still stands.
Ilion's First Street and Otsego Corner.The " Greeks"owned by the Panarites family was the soda fountain and candy hangout for generations of Ilion's school children.A parade is in progress on Otsego St.with the Bicentennial Queen and court in the wagon.
Ilion's Otsego House located on the new plank toll road from Ilion to Cedarville.It was located where the present Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home parking lot is now located.It was a depot for the stage coaches to and from the south.
The old S.C.Newton cider mill and vinegar works in South Ilion as it appeared in the middle 1920's.Wagons are lined up to have their apples ground,the family cows are peacefully grazing on the hillside.On the road grandfather Newton is testing out his new auto ,a Metz Roadster only to learn that he had to keep his hands on the steering wheel instead of waving to his wife and family.
This is our home.Our farm was settled in 1737 by my 6th great grandfather.The painting shows everyone busy collecting,boiling and processing maple syrup,a main product of our farm even today.
This is a painting of our original cider mill and vinegar works built by my great great grandfather in 1854.It has now been leveled and the cider equipment is at our Clapsaddle Farm,still operating each season.The painting shows a long line of wagons with the owners and horses patiently waiting for their turn at the cider press.
This painting shows a pretty victorian girl and her brother waiting at the old cider mill for their turn at the cider press.Many teens "dressed up" to come to the mill with their parents.It became an annual social visit and fun time.
The little hamlet of Miller's Mills has its annual July ice cream social in front of the Grange Hall.This has been going on since 1790.The ice cut off of the Little Unadilla Lake ,in the center of the hamlet,is used to make the ice cream.The ice is stored in the ice house,packed in sawdust,until the July event.The ice cream is made with the local's"secret formula" and hundreds come to sample it each year.The Grange and General Store are in the top left,the grist and saw mills are on the lower left.
These two Victorian buildings,on the Mohawk River at Little Falls are still standing.They are now being restored to their original glory.The painting was done to inspire such local action.They are referred to as the "Two Victorian Ladies".
White Lake is on the border of Herkimer and Oneida Counties in the southern Adirondacks.It has many small islands,adding to its charm.Adirondack guideboats are being loaded for a trip out to an island camp ,this during the early 1900's.Shown in the painting are local people that I know and they were taken back to a time long ago.
This is the Young or Huxtable Farm in the little hamlet of Miller's Mills.It was a "whistle stop" on the milk train track.The painting shows an annual reunion of the family .The farm is "Twin Pines" and was settled by the Jung(Young) family in the late 1790's.The family,early on,intermarried with the Williams and Luther families made famous by Roger Williams who founded Rhode Island and Martin Luther who founded the Lutheran Church.
THe painting depicts an early 1920's Franklin Air Cooled roaster coming into Miller's Mills.The Little Unadilla Lake is in the background.The lake is part of the headwaters of one of the three stream that flow south to create the Susquehana River which flows into Chesapeak Bay.
The stone aquaduct connecting the original Erie Canal with the 1795 Inland Naviagation Canal at Little Falls.This allowed goods to be brought into the center of the City by canal boat.
The painting was commissioned by the Little Falls Canal Days Committee .It depicts the early wooden locks at Little Falls to make the falls passable by durham boats and bateaux. These primative 1795 locks lifted or lowered the boats 44 feet in the Mohawk River.The boats were polled up and down the river between Schnectady and Fort Stanwix at Rome.
The painting depicts Cedarville Station,commonly ,referred to as Chepachet,as it appeared in the days of the "Milk Train".The little hamlet boasted a coal yard,a general store and feed mill in addition to its busy passenger and freight railroad station.The station still stands and is now a bar.
The painting depicts the village as it appeared in the late 1800's.The general store still operates there and is unchanged outside.The two nearby hotels are now gone as are most of the other buildings in the painting.The original painting is owned by Sharon Smith who now runs and owns the General Store.
The Painting depicts the original Erie Canal at the drydock area of East Frankfort.Two freight boats are passing .The building ,on the canal,was on of the largest meat markets on the entire 300+ mile length.The towpath is on the right side or north side of the canal.The large freight boat at the bottom on the painting was built and owned by E.Remington &Sons in Ilion.All of their guns and barrels were shipped by canalboat until the advent of the railroads in the later 1800's.
General Herkimer"s home facing the Mohawk River.Built by the County's namesake in 1769.In the background are the hills of Mohawk or German Flatts.It is located east of Little Falls.
Located east of Little Falls is the 1768 Indian Castle Church.This was funded by a gift from Sir Willian Johnson on nearby Johnstown. It was the home "castle" of the Mohawk Indians and the childhood home of both Molly and Joseph Brant.The building still stands and has been restored.Palatine Germans are depicted in the foreground with Mohawks selling pumpkins near the church.
The new ,enlarged,Erie Canal looking towards"Lover's Leap" on Little Fall's south side.The Slavic Lutheran Church and the bridge over the Mohawk River are depicted.
The original water powered power plant at the falls at Little Falls.Abandoned for years ,then purchased by Forbes Whiteside and restored as his residence.The print shows the plant at dusk ,with the sun setting to the west.The view is from the present Anne Street bridge ,over the Mohawk River,looking west.The new bridge for vehicles is above the power plant.
Victorian Outing at Clapsaddle Falls ,a favorite destination for families on Sundays.The falls is still the same ,as it part of the Historic Clapsaddle Farm in Ilion,Herkimer County,New York.Clapsaddle Farm was settled in 1737 and today is a agri-tourism site in Upstate New York
The original Erie Canal at German Flatts.The Valley Tavern sits at the center of the painting.It was Tory owned during the American Revolution,so was spared the burning by enemy forces.The Cary mansion is to its left with the Myer Farm on the right.Myer's were original Palatine Germans and settled this farm in 1722.The Canal shows freight,passenger packets and a steam launch.This launch was owned by a Budlong from Mohawk .
The Remington Mansion in Ilion,built to entertain foreign arms buyers.The stable on the right still stands and is now the Ilion Little Theater Club.The Mohawk Valley is to the left with the NYC Railroad,The West Shore Railroad and the Erie Canal.At the bottom is the early Remington yellow armory building and the drop forge building.On the corner of Otsego and Second Streets stands the fire house ,now the offices of Radley and Rheinhardt.This depicts a parade in the late 1890's.
This is the gunmaker's home built next to his father, Elilpalet Remington I's original forge.The son built his new home here from his memory of homes in Conneticut.The family came here ,when Elilpalet 11 was 7 yrs old, in 1790.Across the Ilion Gorge road from the rear of the Remington house one can see the original sulfur spring that brought in tourist for it healing waters.The home faced the hill to the west ,since the gorge road ended here and the exit road was up the western bank to his father's stone home on the Barringer Road.The home burned in the 1970's under mysterious circumstances.
The original Ilion High School built in 1929 and burned in the 1960's.Ilion fireman Burton Seymour was killed fighting this fire.The painting shows a complete graduating class from the 1940-60 era on the side steps.The front steps had been removed.The autos are typical of the era as are the bobby socks and saddle shoes.
MADISON COUNTY
The painting depicts a balloon view of the Village,looking down on the Chenango Canal,the Great Western Turnpike and the five faced cobblestone store (Now the Landmark Tavern).The Duffy Mott cider mill is on the top right.The train crossed the landscape on the top left.This would be how Bouckville looked in the 1850's.
The Colgate Inn overlooking the park in downtown Hamilton.It is very busy today serving the social needs of Colgate University.It is depicted as it appeared in the late 1890's.
The painting depicts the very busy Village of Brookfield on the Skaneateles Turnpike during the early 1800's.Many of the buildings are still standing.The Madison Co.Fair is held here each fall.
A Franklin Air Cooled Coupe at the corner of Lincklaen St.and Albany in Cazenovia.This depicts the corner as it appeared in the 1920's.
Three eras of English Jaguar autos on the lawn for the annual English car show at Lorenzo,the Holland Land Office mansion ,in Cazenovia.
Downtown Hamilton showing the Chenango Canal crossing Lebanon Street next to the present location of the Barge Canal Coffee House.The canal operated from 1841-1878.
The corner of Lincklaen and Albany Streets in Cazenovia.Cazenovia College is in the background.Early Franklin autos,made in Syracuse,come through the intersection reflecting the early 1900's image.
The Village of Madison and small portraits of the surrounding hamlets and Chenango Canal sites.The series of unusual cobblestone homes are separately illustrated .This is as the township would have appeared in the late1800's.
The City of Oneida in the late 1800's.The Erie Canal feeded joins the NY Central rail tracks on Main St.The RR has since been moved south and elevated.Downtown has many mill ponds to supply the many mills with waterpower.Seneca Turnpike is at the top of the painting.The canal ,later filled in,is located where Main St.is extended north to Durhamville.
Cannon Park in Cazenovia on the Great Western Turnpike.This was an early settlement area and the painting depicts the area as it would have appeared in the middle 1800's.
The south side of Albany Street in Cazenovia in the late 1800's.The names on the storefronts were researched to fit this era.
Built by the early Welsh settlers to this part of Cazenovia,the church still stands in restored condition and is regularly used.It is south of Route 20 ,just east of Cazenovia.
Cazenovia Lake as it appeared in the late 1800's.The watercraft shown were researched to ascertain that they would have been on the Lake during this era.The view is from the south end of the lake on the Great Western Turnpike,looking north.
Solsville as it appeared in the 1870's.The Chenango Canal and the railroad brought tourists in to nearby Madison Lake with its ferris wheels ,rolly coasters ,boating etc,The Solsville Hotel is still operating today.
Canastota and the original Erie Canal.The painting was commissioned by the Canal Museum and depicts the village as it appeared in the middle 1800's.
Chittenango Falls 1900.The painting depicts the falls when visitors could picnic at its base.
The Morrisville Fire Dept.1890's.The painting depicts their early ladder wagons,pumper and their sharp uniforms.Today the firehouse has been restored to its original beauty.It is now white with red trim.
Eaton as it appeared in the 1880's with two general stores,hotels,wagon shops etc.It also shows the factory that produced the world's first four wheel drive traction engine:Woods&Taber designed and built the first portable steam engines allowing new factory and mill construction away from waterpower sources.Their unusual tractor was called the "Rubicon".
Morrisville and the Great Western Turnpike ,turn of the Century.A parade is in progress on the turnpike ,opening the Madison Co.fair with the fairgrounds shown on the lower left.
This is Leonardsville as it appeared in the late 1800's.It had two hotels,two general stores,a large hardware and a very busy waterpowered mill section.It was a large produced of agricultural equipment.It was located well for commerce ,both supplied by rail and the nearby Skaneateles Turnpike.
The new Colgate bookstore in Hamilton as it appeared in the 1890's.

OTSEGO COUNTY
Otsego County's last remaining covered bridge at the original entrance to Hyde Hall on the north end of Otsego Lake.It is pictured as it appeared during the late 1800's.
The Thayer Farm overlooking Otsego Lake near Springfield Center.It is owned by the State U.at Oneonta and is used for their summer environmental science interns.The image takes the farm back to the early 1900's with a view of Otsego Lake looking from the southwest to the northeast.
This is one of the few octagon barns still standing in Central New York.It is on Route 28 overlooking Canadarago Lake at Richfield Springs. The little stone barn in the foreground ,with its wooden overhang is unique also.The barn reccently received a NYS barn grant so that it could be restored and saved for future generations to enjoy.
Springfield Center with its two original mill ponds that supplied water power to a cider mill,grist mill and saw mill.The "downtown" has a balloon ascention in progress by Carlotta Myer one of the top aeronauts of the late 1800's.The church had not been built yet on the site of the balloon ascention.
The Village of Unadilla sitting on the Susquehana River on its eastern boundary and the Chanango and Unadilla Rivers to the west .They all join here to form the Susquehana which continues on to empty into Chesapeake Bay,much further to the south.The painting was commissioned for the Village's bicentennial.The key historic buildings are shown in small vingettes.
Cullen is a small hamlet located between Richfield Springs,NY and Jordanville.It boasted a hotel ,blacksmith shop,a private Episcopal Chapel,and a electric trolley depot on the Mohawk-Oneonta Trolley .
Schenevus as it appeared in the 1890's.The fire department is on a fire call up Main Street.Most of the buildings shown in this bicentennial painting are still standing.The word "schenevus" was an Iroquois word for speckled trout.
sOmmegang Brewery's new building south of Cooperstown is a state of art Belgian brewey.The painting was commissioned to show the new building but also to illustrate its traditions.Thus,a Belgian team is pulling a wagon of barrels of their most popular ales and lagers.On the hill behind are the hop yards that made this part of NYS the largest hop produceds of the late 1800's.To the right is an original hop house for drying hops.The brewery has it in storage and it dates to the 1850's.Plans to rebuild it are in the works.
The Otsego Co.Fair at the puppet show .Puppet shows are held during the day so that farm children,who are spending the week with their animals at the fair,can participate in this unique show.The children are trained to operate the puppets as their friends sit on hay bails to cheer them on.
This barn was on of the first in the USA to introduce animals into the process of improving the lives of children with down syndrome.The painting shows the barn being used as a children's fair in the Wharton Valley.The barn is still standing and is located on upper Main Street in Edmeston.Later the experience tested at this barn became the foundation of the new large facility at the east of the Village.
The estate of the Clarke family at the northern end of Otsego Lake:Hyde Hall.Shown in the late 1800's with the steamer "Natty Bumpo " on the lake.
The painting depicts Canadarago Lake looking east from Baker's Beach.Across the lake,on the right are the island and the old roller skating/amusement park.On the left is the Lake House.On th water are the styles of watercraft that would have been there in the early 1900.Tourist would arrive by the Mohawk to Oneonta electric trolley along the opposite side of the Lake.
The restored clock at Richfield Springs.It stood in the middle of the Great Western Turnpike at the intersection of Lake Street previously.The stores and buildings are still standing and the downtown is now being restored to fit its Victorian heritage when the VIllage equalled Saratoga Springs for attracting tourists to is mineral springs.
Kingfisher Tower at Otsego Lake in Cooperstown.The painting shows the watercraft that would have been on the lake during the Victorian Era.

This was a popular sailing rig on Otsego Lake at the turn of the century.Astern of the sailboat is one of the early steam launches that carried tourist around the Lake from the waterfront at Cooperstown and the Otesaga Hotel.

Cooperstown's Main Street in the 1890's.Doubleday field is above the Sneider's Bakery Building and Pioneer Street is above that.Main Street is filled with social and commercial activity.The Thanksgiving Hospitak ambulance is on a call,and the Wilbur hop wagon heads out to the farms for a load of baled hops.A water wagon keeps horse and wagon dust down at the top of the street.

ONEIDA COUNTY
This is Holland Patent as it appeared in the 1890's.It was named in honor of the Holland Land Co.,a group of Amsterdam merchants who purchased and resold tens of thousandths of acres of New York State land that they purchased at the close of the American Revolution.The land office was in Olden Barneveld,the next village to the east.Shown are the original four churches and the Academy.In the back is the Butterfield House,still standing.The painting was completed for the BiCentennial of the Village.
Westernville with the intersection of the Stoke/Westernville Road and Main Street as it appeared in the 1870's.The busy Black River Canal is in the upper part of the painting,the Floyd home is on the lower right.On the left is the Hotel and across the street the Swan home.The Quaker Meeting House and the Presbyterian Church are on the Stokes Road.
This painting recreates the activity around a Sears gas station of the 1940-60 era.The Sears family is from Rome,N.Y. and operated a chain of these quaintly styled stations throughout Central NY.This one is the remaining one,fully restored as a museum in Rome.

Bald Mountain Pond 1900.The painting depicts two Victorian young ladies visited the Adirondacks.Note they have deposited their elaborate hats on the nearby bushes.An adirondack guideboat glides up the pond.
Trenton Falls,New York and Moore's Hotel.Site of the Civil War meeting of World leaders called by President Lincoln to gain their backing for the war efforts against the Southern Confederacy. Lead by Auburn native Secretary of War Seward ,the foreign dignitaries were entertained and shown the industrial strength and determination of the Federal Government to hold the Union together.

The bicentennial painting of the township commissioned by the Town government.It depicts the Cameron Covered bridge over the West Canada Creek,the hamlet of North Gage,the unusual stone structures down in the ravine next to Real's Creek and the section of the town that was ceded to the city of Utica .It is now referred to as North Utica.
Eagle Bay on the Fulton Chain.The painting depicts the Victorian Era with the large steamers loading and unloading passengers and freight to this booming tourist area.
The hamlet of Knoxboro in the Town of Agusta.This general store is still standing and still operating.The watering trough is for the four legged creatures that were in the majority in such a rural hamlet.
Old Forge as it appeared in the 1900's.The village was centered at the present waterfront on the Old Forge Pond.Here the Fulton Chain steamers connected with the railroad from Thendara.The Forge House is on the left center of the painting.The street at the top now has the library located on it now.
Prospect in the 1890's.The home of Nellie Thurston Squire a world famous aeronaut who still holds world records for balloon ascentions and distances flown.Many of the buildings depicted are still standing.

The Kewpee Diner as it appeared in the 1950's on Oneida Square.UFA and Utica College students mill around as the cars wait for the roller skating waitresses to arrive to take orders and deliver food.
Camden as it appeared in the late 1800's.The park and Village hall is on the top right with the main business district down to center.The Mexico Road is at the bottom with its bridge crossing the creek near the mill area.
This painting was completed for the Deerfield Bicentennial Committee and shows the key historical features of the Township.North Gage ,the Cameron Covered Bridge over the West Canada Creek,the Ravine and its unusual Reale Creek and what is now North Utica .These areas are depicted as they would have appeared in the late 1800's.
This painting was completed on commission of Ed Stylarzic for the Friends of the Oriskany Battlefield.It recreates the entire line of battle from the ambush of Col.Cox's Canajoharie regiment on the top right to the fleeing of Col.Fischer's wagon train soldiers on the left.In the middle of the ambush are Col.Bellinger's and Col.Klock's German Flatts regiments.
