MONTGOMERY COUNTY ,NEW YORK

  Charleston Four Corners,south of Fort Plain as it appeared in the late 1800's.

The Nellis Tavern,late 1700's, on the old King's highway between Johnstown and Deerfield,just east of St.Johnsville. The highway ran on the south side of the tavern between it and the Mohawk River


Sprakers on the original Erie Canal.Canajoharie is on the horizon.A small insert shows the opposite view through the "Noses" towards Schnectady. In the foreground is the Spraker's General Canal Store ,one of the largest on the Erie.The painting depicts the Village as it appeared in the middle 1850's.The Mohawk River is to the right in the painting.

Sprout Brook is pictured as it appeared in the late 1800's.This is the boyhood home of Henry Kaiser and his home is shown in the right lower section of the painting.The hamlet is being overflown by one of the early aircraft flying out of Cooperstown.


The Lutheran and Dutch Reformed Churches ans Parsonage at Stone Arabia -First settled by the Palatine Germans in 1722.

The Palatine Church on King's Highway between Fort Plain and St.Johnsville was the centerpiece of a thriving hamlet .It included a grist and saw mill,a hotel,a blacksmith and farmhouses on Main Street.It was constructed by the early Palatine German settlers in the early 1700o's.

Fort Klock ,east of St.Johnsville .The original stone home of the Klock family on the Mohawk River.They became traders with the native Americans and serviced the bateaux and durham boat traffic going east and west from Schnectady to Fort Stanwix at Rome.It was fortified during the French and Indian War and was the site of the Revolutionary Battle of Klock's Field.

Amish girls at the little stream at Fort Klock.They are collecting wintergreen,spearmint and peppermint for fresh tea and dried tea.They are part of the large Old Order Amish communities on both sides of the Mohawk River.This family are dairy farmers and the daughter Anna and mother Amelia are basket makers.

Fort Fry on the North bank of the Mohawk River in Palatine Bridge.It was built by Canajoharie's first settler after he arrived from Switzerland in the early 1700's.He purchased his land from the Mohawk Indians and became an influential fur trader with the Iroquois Federation tribes.VanAlystyns build a stone home across the river in Canajoharie shortly after.



Charleston ,NY,south of Amsterdam as it appeared in the late 1800's.Called Rider's Corners earlier,it is the site of the farm given to a local for renting the Durham boats to Gen.Geo Washington and his troops ,so they could cross the Delaware River and Attack the encamped Hessian mercenaries on Christmas Eve,1778.

SCHOHARIE COUNTY,NEW YORK

Worcester and the hamlets surrounding it.Recreated from the atlas maps of 1874 for the Villages bicentennial.Original is owned by the local historical society.

The Beekman Mansion at Sharon Springs.Built by a Revolutionary War Surgeon and restored to its original appearance in the 1990's

Sharon Springs as it appeared in 1928.This painting is owned by the local historical society and was commissioned for their bicentennial.The date was chosen because that is the year that the large bathouse was opened that could bath 5000 per day in its curative sulfur and magnesium baths.All the social and  commercial activity in the painting reflect that date ,vehicles included.

The original village of Colbelskill ,built around the mill pond that supplied to power to a saw and grist mill that used to stand opposite the Bull's Head Tavern(still standing).The original homes around the pond are the oldest in the Village.In the lower right corner is the first of the Victorian three story business buildings that now dominate Main Street.

ONONDAGA COUNTY,NEW YORK

The old grist mill on the River Road out of Marcellus.The home and mill dam with its waterfall still exist.The mill has been torn down.

The Marcellus high school on the hill in downtown.

Franklin Coupe at the corner of Lincklaen St.and Albany St. in Cazenovia 1920's.Franklins were manufactured in Syracuse and return,from all over the world,once a year for the annual Franklin Trek

Cicero's Bicentennial Painting of 2007.Commissioned by the Cicero Historical Society and hangs in their new facility next to the restored Stone Arabia school.

Syracuse University with Crouse College in the foreground,Maxwell ,Hall of Languages and student union are all shown.This is a view from the upstairs of the Veteran's Hospital across the street from Crouse College.

The Village of Marcellus at the end of the 1800's.The painting was commissioned and is owned by th Marcellus Historical Society.A parade down Main Street includes banners with the names of all the townships hamlets.

Camillius as it appeared when the Erie Canal feeder connected to the Village from the north.Highlighted in small portraits are the key historic buildings of the Township.A parade up Main Street includes groups carrying banners with each of the hamlets names on them.

Cazenovia Lake in the late 1800's as viewed from The Great Western Turnpike and from the Lorenzo Estate.The watercraft were researched to reflect that date.

Skaneatles as it would have appeared in 1900 from a balloon floating along the waterfront.The Sherwood Inn is in the center foreground.The daily train and train turnaround is shown in the center of the painting.The original painting is on permanent display at the Creamery owned by the Shaneateles Historical Society.

Jamesville at the bridge on Main Street,1900.The mills are now gone ,the waterfall is still intact.The beautiful little school girl reflects the style of the times.

The waterfront at Skaneateles Lake in the early 1900's,showing the early sail and steam powered watercraft.

The corner of Lincklaen St. and Albany St. in Cazenovia.Shown are early Franlin air-cooled cars on the streets.The painting depicts the early 1900's.In the background is Cazenovia College.

Each year individual brands of autos are featured in a special lawn show at Lorenzo ,the restored estate of the Lincklaen family .Lincklaens were the Holland Land agents for the sales of land in this part of Onondaga Co. The painting shows a collection of Jaguars covering the 1950's throught the 1960's. 

The Welsh Church south of Route 20 ,east of Cazenovia.It was built by the Welsh settlement that had migrated from Wales in the early 1800's.

Albany Street,Cazenovia looking southeast.The painting depicts the late 1800,early 1900's.The names on the storefronts were taken from an 1874 NYS Atlas and the clothing styles,social and commercial activity reflect that era.

Canon Park at Cazenovia.The painting depicts the earliest homes in the Village,one used as a stage coach stop on the Great Western Turnpike(Rt.20).Although the cannon is a German unit ,it symbolizes that this is park dedicated to our war veterans.

HAMILTON COUNTY,NEW YORK

Long Lake as it appeared in the late 1800's.The present Adirondack Hotel and the Sagamore Hotel are in the foreground.

Lake Durant in the Adirondacks.The lake was named for the man who opened the Adirondack"wilds" to the city people.He constructed railroads,great camps.to bring the city people into the mountains.A plaque off of Route 30 details the history of this unusual visionary.

The painting depicts Raquette Lake with its watercraft and rail activity in the early 1900's.Steamers are busy loading and touring the lake.A great camp private speedboat is near the shore.

The original Adirondack Hotel at Long Lake.The painting recreates the era of the late 1930's when the automobile opened up the mountains to many average people.Similar hotels were built throughout the mountains.

The Marion River Carry area at the top of Raquette Lake and just shy of Blue Mountain Lake.It connected travelers and tourists to the "World's Smallest Railroad" that connected the two lakes.

Blue Mountain Lake with the mountain in the background.Shown on the lake is the small tug that towed the freight car around the lake to empty it to the needed stores and camps.The train car was brougt up from Raquette Lake on another float by the tug Lillian to the Marion River Crossing Railroad.

Inlet as it appeared in the late 1990's.Mary's Gift shop is one of the only original buildings standing from the earlier ones.Arrowhead Park  is shown and is located on the site of the original Arrowhead Hotel.

Raquette Lake as it appeared in the late 1800's.This was the era of the great camps,railroad passenger and freight trains,the freight car floats,the towing tugs and the school boat.Raquette Lake Supply is in the foreground center.

LEWIS  COUNTY ,NEW YORK

The painting was commissioned by the Lewis Co.Chamber of Commerce for the 200th birthday celebrations.It depicts the main traditional industries of the County and around the border of the antique map are the significant buildings and all the hamlets and villages that create the County.

Bellfort is a little hamlet north of Croghan dominated by its forceful stream and water power for its electrical generating plant.The hotel still stands as does the Grange,original Catholic Church,and the two buildings that once housed the two general stores.The painting depicts the hamlet as ith appeared in the middle 1920's.A wedding is going on at the hotel and guests are gathering.

Croghan as it appeared in the late 1899's.The railroad and station are busy ,as are the stores and mills.The early Zehr Menonite farm is at the top right of the painting ,the Catholic Church and School and the hotel are in the lower portion.The painting was commissioned for the bicentennial by the Adirondack Menonite Heritage Association.

Deer River as it appeared in the early 1920's.The large water powered cheese factory and creamery is on the left with the church and hotel behind it.The beautiful stone farmhouse is just across the bridge.The little auto in the lower part of the painting ,with the picnicing couple is a cycle car called the Buckmobile,made in Utica.

This is downtown Lowville ,looking south from Shady Avenue towards Martinsburg.Little vingettes display the most prominent historical homes and an early Cheese Wagon.

Lowville's Main Street ,looking north from Shady Avenue.The church is at the top center and the view looks towards Denmark.The painting was commissioned by the Lewis County Historical Society and shows this section of the Village as it appeared in the late 1800's.

Port Leyden as it appeared when both the railroad and the Black River Canal passed through towm.It the foreground is the Black River at Lyonsdale.The large power plant and the iron furnance are on the river.


Constable Hall at Constableville,NY,the rural estate of William Constable one of the largest landowners in the Adirondacks after the American Revolution.Still standing and open to the Public.

HERKIMER COUNTY,NEW YORK

An air-cooled Franklin roaster entering Miller's Mills ,NY.Thousands of these were manufactured in Syracuse.

Clapsaddle Farm in Ilion,NY.Still in the same family since 1737 .Operated for years as a major Northeast USA Holstein-Fresian breeding farm.Its main bull "Monvic Pathfinder" was the World Champion in the early 1940's.Presently it contains Parker's Cider Mill and Orchard and is a local maple syrup producer.Open to the public in season.All in the print are producing maple syrup as they would have in the late 1800's.

Clapsaddle Falls as it appeared during a Victorian Outing in the late 1800's. The fall is about 60 feet tall and its Warren Creek drops down into the Mohawk Valley via Steele's Creek at Ilion,NY

Indian Castle Church ,east of Little Falls,NY.Built as a gift to Joseph Brant's Mohawk Indian tribe by Sir William Johnson in 1768.Still standing and open to the public.Print shows a Palatine German wagon passing by and Mohawks selling pumpkins and squash.

Two beautiful Victorian buildings overlooking the Mohawk River and the falls at Little Falls,NY.Presently being restored as art studios and apartments.

OSWEGO COUNTY,NEW YORK

The harbor at Oswego with two canals entering the Lake parallel to  the River on each side.The left side shows large lumber schooners unloading.These replaced the earlier schooners that arrived with grain to offlload.A serious fire burned down the buildings on the left side ,including all the grain storage towers.So,the port became a lumber harbor.

CHENANGO COUNTY ,NEW YORK

This painting was commissioned by the Chenango Co. Board of Supervisors for the County's Bicentennial.It depicts all the hamlets and villages that create the County around an antique map of the County.Closest to the map are key buildings:the stone bank building in Oxford,the White Store Church,the courthouse etc.


This painting depicts the Village of Oxford ,the Chenango Canal and the Chenango River as they appeared in the late 1800's.It was commissioned for the Village's Bicentennial in 2008.

Holmsville as it appeared in the late 1800's with the railroad in full operation.The painting was completed for the Bicentennial of the town of New Berlin in 2007.The rare cast iron bridge ,over the Chenago River is depicted in a separate vinyette.The bridge is now abandoned and connects Otsego Co.and Chenango Co.

The painting depicts the Village as it appeared in the late 1800's.Shown are the two railroad stations and two railway companies that stopped in South New Berlin.Shown also is the business district with its hotel,two general stores,blacksmith and wagon shops and grist mill.

JEFFERSON COUNTY ,NEW YORK

An antique map of the Township of Champion ,surrounded by the 18 stone homes that decorate the town.The large painting next to the map shows the arrival of the first settlers:the Mix family.They were on a raft with all of their household affects traveling from Lyons Falls to their new home here.The raft was caught in the rapids of the Black River .They were saved by two French fur trappers who were camped on the east bank.The painting was commissioned by Mrs.Suzanne Wiley,the Town Historian.

The Battle Of Sackett's Harbor during the War of 1812.The British ships in the foreground ,landing troops on the causeway at Horse Island.American schooners at the top of the painting.British and Indian allies invading the garrison to destroy the new American warships being built there.Neither side could claim a victory when in was over .The Indians and British fled and returned to York ,Ontario.
